Kate Continues: More Press on Donkeys, Outcast and More

As a follow to the post below, the Scotsman also has an interview with great Kate, who gives a bit more insight on her reprise as Jackie in Sigma Films upcoming Rounding Up Donkeys. The second of the original Advance Party Films trilogy, Kate gives us bit more insight on her revamped character of Jackie: "It was really nice to revisit the characters, but our lives are in a different dimension, we're in different jobs, some of our history is different, some is the same. We all have different relationships." She says she is still Jackie, but now works in a supermarket, and that the drama of the film focuses on another character."

Like the previous others, we also hear a bit on her turn in Outcast and the anticipated mini-series of Pillars of the Earth. Quotage:

With gentle encouragement, she does admit that Sergio Mimica-Gazzan, the Croatian director of big budget mini-series The Pillars of the Earth, adapted from the Ken Follett novel about cathedral builders and likely to be screened on television later this year, spotted both Dickie and co-star Tony Curran in Red Road and found suitable parts for both in the series.

Dickie spent about a month in Budapest where the series was made, on set with the likes of Ian McShane, Donald Sutherland and Rufus Sewell. "It was great fun, I loved that job. My character was very strong, not coarse but very real, very down to earth. She dies early on, but my death triggers a lot of what happens for the rest of the film. I loved Budapest so much. I felt at home there, they looked after us so well."

Last year she also made Outcast, a supernatural thriller directed by Colm McCarthy (Murphy's Law, Spooks) which will premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas, in March. It marries old witchcraft with contemporary urban horror – the outdoor sequences were filmed in Edinburgh's Sighthill. She plays the mother of a teenage son, pursued by an unnamed fiend (James Nesbitt).

Dickie admits, laughing, that she tends to leave the room when a horror film comes on TV, and says her character is "very dark". "I realised after I finished doing it that I'd been in a really strange place. Sometimes you forget how involved you are in something. My character's quite violent, she looks like she's doing awful things sometimes but her intention is to protect her son and make everything okay.

"It was a really great time. Colm is a wonderful director, so clear about what he's looking for. We had a lot of laughs. My boyfriend thinks it's hilarious. I just need to hear the opening bars of scary music and I'm like 'Turn it off!' He says 'But you've been in a horror film!' It's pathetic, but it's different when you're in it."

Kate Dickie Talks Scottish Film, "Rounding Up Donkeys," More

Good tidings this fat Tuesday :D as we get to hear again from the ever fabulous actress Kate Dickie who is the subject of a second interview of late, today in the Herald. While the one from last week was theatrecentric, the subject of this article contains new thoughts from the ever fearless actress who thankfully is given the chance to weigh in on Scottish film, and notably the second installment in the Advance Party trilogy from Sigma Films, "Rounding Up Donkeys." Directed by Morag Mckinnon, actors play the same character as in the superb Red Road, only with a twist as has long been establish. Kate gives her thoughts on her return to the character of Jackie:

“That was fun,” Dickie says. “It’s the same characters, but with different relationships and a different set of circumstances. That really interested me, because it meant your character is making different choices. The film’s a very black comedy, and it meant that you’d be p****** yourself laughing at the same time something awful was happening. But I like having the rug pulled from under me like that, thinking things are going one way, then they end up going somewhere completely different.”

Also of note, the remainder of the piece contains her thoughts on the unfortunate labels often slapped on Scottish film ("I think it’s good to shake it up in front of people. I don’t understand why people always go on about all this grim stuff in Scotland. If you look at the stuff coming out of eastern Europe, it makes us look like Cinderella.”) There are also mentions of Colm McCarthy's Outcast starring Kate and James Cosmo and James Nesbitt, which was filmed (and covered here) last summer in Edinburgh as follows:

Dickie identifies a problem that film-makers including Arnold, McKinnon and Glenaan, plus others such as Lynne Ramsay, have all had to face. Schooled in a European arthouse tradition, at home they’re too easily dismissed as kitchen-sink sensationalists romanticising the local underclass. Even Outcast, the horror film that Dickie has just made alongside James Nesbitt, looks set to face such charges. Ostensibly a supernatural thriller, Dickie plays one of the Syph people, a type of Irish fairy isolated from their homeland. “We look human,” she says, “but we’re not.”

If this sounds like a metaphysical leap away from Dickie’s other work, think again. Outcast, as she describes it, is a modern urban horror, filmed on location in Edinburgh’s Sighthill district, and which is “Quite dark. Quite violent. Quite brutal, really.”

Not that Dickie is ever likely to see it when it’s released. As with most things, she’s scared of horror films, and can’t even watch them on TV. She’s more likely to be able to cope with The Pillars of the Earth, a major mini-series based on a Ken Follett novel and co-executive produced by Ridley and Tony Scott, which Dickie appears in two episodes of. Set in the 12th century, its epic tale of war, politics and religious strife sounds a long way from Red Road. Dickie is the first to admit, however, that it was the global exposure she received via Arnold’s film that opened the door to this other realm of city-size sets in Budapest and casts of thousands led by Ian McShane.

“I was terrified,” she says. “I’m used to doing small things, and suddenly I’m doing this. I die about 15 minutes in, but that sets off a lot of different things. But it was terrifying. Just being away from home. I’m a real home body and I hate change.”

Where, though, does all this fear come from? “I don’t know,” she admits. “I’ve thought about it a lot, but I’m quite shy, and I probably hide behind my characters a lot. I can do anything when I’m playing a character. I’ve always found it easier doing things when I’m not being myself. I can put on a good show of being brave, but inside is something else.”

"OutCast" with James Nesbitt, Kate Dickie World Premiere at SXSW in March

As a follow to the post below, Colm McCarthy's "OutCast" starring the great Kate Dickie and James Nesbitt will have its world premiere at the SXSW festival next month in Texas. While tickets for this screening are not yet available (or word on who might be attending) the film portion of the festival runs March 12-20th in Austin. Great news!Update: The Herald now has a piece online with quotes from the producer Eddie Dick who says they turned down a chance to screen at Tribeca in favor of the vaunted Texas festival. quotage: "

When asked to choose Tribeca or SXSW, Outcast producer Eddie Dick said: “Our sales agent said you must take SXSW because it is developing a reputation as the coolest film festival in the US.

“Tribeca is a great festival but for this kind of film and the attention we are wanting to get for it, the prize here has to be an attempt to get a release in North America. Getting the opening slot in the fantasy section is as good a shot as we’re going to get at that.”

I have been told we won't be seeing an official promo for another week or so yet, but be sure to check out my flickr for the earlier poster and some filming photos from last year. Stay tuned!

Bonus! While we dont know who will be attending and when exactly the film premiere will take place, Scottish great actress Katie Dickie is due to open with her new place "What We Know" at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh, Scotland. Previewing Feb 17, and running thru Feb 24th, you can learn more about the play and book tickets here at this link. GO KATE! :)

UPDATE! A great interview with the GREAT KATE DICKIE in the Times, where she discusses the above mentioned play. There are brief mentions of her forthcoming appearances in Rounding Up Donkeys, Pillars of the Earth and Outcast. Quotage:

"The television and film work that has kept her off the stage for the past two years is done in more family-friendly short bursts. She has finished Rounding Up Donkeys, which is a sequel, of sorts, to Red Road. It has the same characters and actors but shakes them all around into a completely different film. Alfred, who was Dickie’s father-in-law in Red Road, is now her father. He is also played by a different actor. No mention, at this point, of nudity and sex.

Back in the mainstream, Dickie pops up in a couple of episodes of The Pillars of the Earth, a mini-series starring Ian McShane and Matthew Macfadyen, a one-off drama, Dive, with Ewen Bremner, and a horror film, Outcast, starring James Nesbitt. Despite all this, Dickie can’t break the habit of worrying where the next job is coming from.

“I never feel safe with it — I’m always thinking all right, there’s going to be a long, quiet period ahead. I can’t help it."Unless the National Theatre of Scotland is taken over by Simon Cowell, that is never going to happen."

Film Festival Update: Dispatches from France, Glasgow, Dublin, and Berlin

Happy February! Well we may have six more weeks (at least) of dread snowy weather ahead booooo!, but at least there are some good things heating up on the film festival scene to distract. Going global, there is the following of interest:

France: Colin Kennedy and Brian Coffey from Sigma are in France as I Love Luci, the newest film from Sigma is making waves at the acclaimed Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival. Colin reports that despite the cold, there is some interest in the film which he wrote and directed, and all fingers are crossed for sales. Go Luci Go! If you are not already, be sure to follow Colin on his Twitter here and check out the new Facebook Fanpage for the film, which has a debut of the new poster for the film. :)

Glasgow: The Scottish Premiere of I LOVE LUCI will take place during the Glasgow Film Festival, notably the Short Film Festival section. The crew from Sigma will hopefully make an appearance as the film screens Saturday, February 20th in the "Competition 1" showing. Tickets can be purchased at this link. It is also worth noting that the "Great Scots" strand of the festival will feature an appearance by the great Peter Mullan on February 26th where hopefully he will make remarks about his most recent feature Neds which was based out of Film City Glasgow. You can see new photos from the film here, including one of the excellent Gary Lewis. Director Kevin MacDonald will be the subject of the directors cut series, this event taking place on Sat. Feb 27 where no doubt the subject of the recent Eagle of the Ninth Scottish production will be discussed :) Finally, be sure to head on over to the Apple Store on Buchanan Street February 25 as Scots director Richard Jobson (New Town Killers) will be making an appearance; more info here.

Berlin: more specifically the EFM the busy market for the films will see a few quiet yet hugely important events taking place. If this report is accurate, lucky buyers will be able to see a private promo reel for David Mackenzie's The Last Word. This is nothing new, standard practice to help sell a film, just am hoping things will go really really well for this. Also a film that was made in Edinburgh and several locations as documented here on this blog last year, OUTCAST starring James Nesbitt and the superb Kate Dickie, will be screening several times at the EFM, starting next week on February 11th . A test website is now in place but does not contain much of anything frankly; fingers crossed however that this means we are going to be actually getting a promo and pics finally at some point!

Dublin: Nicolas Winding Refn's Valhalla Rising, starring Mads Mikkelsen and Jamie Sives will be screening at the Jameson Dublin Film Festival on February 24th. As the film has opened in several countries already, there are now several websites online for the film. The French website for the movie features a few new high res downloads, and the Danish site is not completely working properly however you can listen to a bit of the music.

International Poster for James Nesbitt "OutCast"; Update on Kate Dickie

Check it out! Thanks so much to Bankside, we now have a gorgeous high quality edition of the brand new International poster for Colm McCarthy's Outcast, starring James Nesbitt and Kate Dickie. This is the second poster released, and you can also see a larger photo of a menacing James wielding a knife here, altho a slightly different version of it has been of course seen here before and has been on the Irish filmboard website and twitter.
Just as well document in Scotland, Irish film is good for the economy, as "ALMOST ONE fifth of tourists who visited Ireland in 2008 cited film as a reason for coming here, resulting in a tourist expenditure of €369 million, according to a new report on the Irish audiovisual industry,"with both Outcast, Triage and others surely playing a part Again it belies credibility that the film industry in both countries are facing significant funding cuts from the government in face of such clear proof of success and demonstration of a clear need for continued substantive support , but there you go.

On a happier related note, there are recent photos of the great Kate Dickie (Red Road, sigma's upcoming Donkeys) who was also at the Seville film festival with her movie "Wasted". Kate also has been super busy, and was also featured on the finale of "Garrow's Law" for those who were lucky enough to see it on BBC 1.

Quick Update on Outcast

A very brief update today on Outcast with the excellent James Nesbitt and Kate Dickie which was filmed in Edinburgh a few months ago. Last week, James has made brief remarks about the 'horror' film, and notes: "I did a horror film called Outcast - it's all the right things, gory and bloody, so it looks good actually."But the Irish actor added: "I'm not really a fan of horror - I'm the father of two girls so that's enough horror for me.""What makes me scared? Reporters, my mum, (Manchester) United losing and hangovers," he added, laughing.

Meanwhile, the first photo of what should be a fabulous adaptation to film of Ken Follett's award winning "Pillars of the Earth" featuring Kate Dickie is now online ----------->
Kate is also starring along side her Red Road co-star, Tony Curran in the huge epic, and is due for release on TV next year.

Outcast featuring James and Kate is still set for an early 2010 release.

Cannes Watch: Trailer for "Its a Wonderful Afterlife" to Screen, Irish Films to Promote "Triage"

Cannes Watch: In addition to the news about the work and guidelines created by Sigma Films and Advance Party being featured at the film festival, word today that two film starring my favorite actor Jamie Sives will also be in the spotlight at Cannes this week.

First a special trailer for Gurinder Chadha's "It's a Wonderful AfterLife" will screen for buyers ONLY at Cannes. According to this article, the film has already been sold by Hanway films to nine countries, fingers crossed we will get to see it here in the States. Doubt any of us lowly fans will get to see this, but glad to hear they are actively promoting the film.

Also, the Irish Times reiterates that Danis Tanovic's Triage starring Colin Farrell and Jamie Sives will indeed be featured and for sale at Cannes. Still waiting on the trailer of course for the movie which I think is supposed to come out in late fall/holiday

Finally, according to the UK Film Centre, Outcast, starring Katie Dickie and James Nesbitt will be promoted to buyers at the famous film festival held in Cannes this week in France.

LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY people who get to see glimpses of these films

More on James Nesbitt's Outcast for Cannes 2010

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend! Over the holiday the Scotsman/Edinburgh Evening News ran a new interview with former Scottish Screener and film producer Eddie Dick, who is the force behind Outcast, starring James Nesbitt and Katie Dickie (star of Sigma Films' acclaimed Red Road, upcoming Donkeys). In the interview, he speaks to growing up in Edinburgh and gave some reasoning behind the locales chosen for the new film:"The idea of putting your own city on film appeals even if, as in this case, quite a lot of the parts on film are not the typical tourist trap parts," agrees father-of-two Eddie, 59, boss of Makar Productions and producer of Outcast. "We filmed in a lot of places that were on their way to being demolished – Greendykes and Sighthill."

The article has some great nuggets of background on the producer and the movie itself "I was attracted to doing a horror movie," says Eddie. "And there are key elements in Outcast that I like. The story emerges from working class experiences in Edinburgh – it struck me as an unusual context for a horror film."
Mary, played by Red Road star Dickie, is one of the Sidh, an ancient race with magical powers. As her son falls for their neighbour, played by local girl, Queen Margaret University drama graduate Hanna, Cathal's threat to mother and son deepens.

Of note however, is more on what we heard earlier, that Outcast may indeed be screening NEXT MAY in France at teh Cannes Film festival (if not earlier in the year at Berlin in 2010) Quotage:When the film is given its first preview showings at next year's Cannes Film Festival, the audience will see Nesbitt in the role of the sinister Cathal who turns up in Edinburgh in search of his ex-partner Mary and her teenage son.

As we know, Outcast did complete production in Ireland over the weekend. Fingers crossed all of this holds true!!! Speaking of Mr. Dick and his production company, there was a HUGELY interesting (at least to me!) piece of info on a film they have in development called CHILD OF AIR...where apparently a trailer was filmed last fall, and teh movie is to star JAMIE SIVES AND KATE DICKIE!!!!! I absolutely could not believe my eyes, I swear someone is having a laugh on me, cause this would be too good to be true!!! However if the funding is arranged and its not a cruel joke, then omg, I lack the vocabulary at the moment to describe how thrilled I would be to see my two favorite actors starring together in one film...just just woah! BTW recommend another Makar production, called True North, which stars Martin Compston and the always on note Peter Mullan and Gary Lewis (Ithink too Mr Lewis is all over the VR trailer)

Sweet Easter Eggs: Nuggets of News on Various Films

Few nuggets of news today in our easter basket I guess, regarding some various films I've been following.

Egg One: As foreshadowed earlier (this post), IFTN is now announcing main photography on OUTCAST starring James Nesbitt and the wonderful Katie Dickie (Sigmas Red Road, upcoming Donkeys) will wrap this weekend in Ireland. Recently they had been filming at Solas Studios in Galway, Ireland after several awesome weeks of location filming in Scotland around Dalkeith and others near Edinburgh. Last word this film is to be released next year, possibly at a film festival (Berlin and/or Edinburgh) I dont care which one, just as long as I get to see this film! Intriguing somewhat original storyline, fantasy/slight horror/celtic mythology and Kate Dickie in one=happy film goer camper me. :D

Egg Two: Nicholas Winding Refn's Valhalla Rising starring Mads Mikkelsen and Jamie Sives is now in post production, notably SOUND work being done at SAVALAS SOUND, part of the Trifecta of S, super companies located at FILM CITY GLASGOW. As noted on their website, the "astonishing Viking movie...is completing a startling sound-post right now. Produced by Nimbus Film, co-produced by La Belle Alee, and sold by Wild Bunch, it'll be something to see-and hear-when it comes out later this year." Huzzah for that! Since the movie is mostly SLOW MOTION, lord knows what kind of sound/music will be involved. Im sure this will be one discussed for some time after its release.

Egg Three: Speaking of Sound, there is another cool mention of the music for Richard Jobson's New Town Killers starring Dougray Scott and Sigma's Alastair Mackenzie. The infamous NME has a bit about the recently released title track from Isa & the Filthy Tongues (complete with an embed of the music video by Mr J) . Im not sure what the hell Edinburgh Goth is ,or scuzzy Scottish scrapiness is -I take it this is all good adjectives in their brand of journalism- and notes that when it comes to the music " it’s sure to fire you up. " Youbetcha! :)

While three times usually the charm, I did receive a fourth egg today in the form of a welcomed mail. Although cant be certain Jamie Sives is on location shoots this week in London for his new movie It's a Wonderful Afterlife, it would seem he is for sure in the movie, so that was welcomed news- ANY tiny bit makes a difference, and is MOST appreciated, many thanks A!

Right as it is Easter and Jamie was just mentioned (look how I work this in; never give up do I ? :P ), its worth a look to see this clip from BBC's The Passion, (aired on BBC 4, on again March 23 on BBC One) I will be off for a few days, not because I celebrate the holiday anymore cause I dont and my faith in any organized religion is greatly diminished, but in the mean time here is a clip featuring Jamie as someone who has great faith, and received a great gift that made it even stronger. Peace out

(Updated) Filming on Outcast Moves to Ireland

No joke, the Fantastic Films website has removed that earlier blurb about filming for Outcast starring James Nesbitt and Katie Dickie ( Red Road, Donkeys), and replaced it with what seems to be the accurate status of the movie:

Having filmed in Edinburgh for three weeks, Outcast now moves to Studio Solas for two weeks. Outcast starring James Nesbitt and Kate Dickie is directed by Colm McCarthy.

Also of note, on the front page of the site, is what looks to be a new photo of the fantastic James Cosmo (also star of Sigma Films's upcoming Donkeys film) and the young girl in the movie (not sure of her name, does anyone know for certain?)

UPDATE: The Irish Film board also notes they are now in production at the Solas Studios in Galway, and states the following:

The production has built four film sets in the studio and will spend five weeks there including pre-production.

OUTCAST is produced by Fantastic Films with funding from Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board and Scottish Screen and international sales are being handled by Bankside Films. Fantastic Films completed filming on THE WAKEWOOD directed by David Keating late last year which is currently in post -production.

Fingers crossed we will still be able to learn more about the final weeks of production on this movie, which frankly I cant wait for!

Attention James Nesbitt Fans: Outcast Due to Release at Berlin Film Festival Next Year

A bit of a rather surprising (optimistic?) update today regarding Outcast, starring James Nesbitt and Katie Dickie (Sigma's Red Road, upcoming Donkeys). The movie, which is still in production this week before moving to Galway, Ireland to film for two weeks, has release dates already in the works. According to AllMediaScotland, the film is quote:
due for release at the Berlin Film Festival in 2010 and at the Edinburgh Film Festival in June 2010.

I'm really quite surprised at this, as most of those selections are not made this far in advance. Am I wrong about this? Well sure there are negotiations talks and most certainly HOPE this will be the case, but I am uncertain how accurate it is... Nonetheless, its surely something to go on, and by all means keep fingers crossed this will turn out to be true! I have great hopes for films showing at Edinburgh this year, and Berlin obviously is such a plum, but still...dunno.

Related: This news on the possible release dates were part of an article about the Location manager on the film, Nicola Parker. Quotage:

The location at Sighthill was chosen as the empty flats provide the eerie, post apocalyptic quality required to set the scene of the film. Nicola’s job involves scouting potential locations, taking pictures and providing recommendations to the Director of the film. She believes the course at Stevenson provided an excellent grounding for working in the film industry. Nicola Parker said:

“I was well equipped to deal with the technical language used on film sets and knew exactly what was expected of me. The course at Stevenson is practical and is run by people who have actually worked in the film industry. I still phone them when I need advice and they’re always happy to help.”

Inner Eye Says OutCast Wraps April 11th

I always knew, like their Scottish counterparts, the Irish were magical and special, and apparently Fantastic Films has the inner eye as well! A google alert popped up from a production company TONIGHT with the date reading April 11th heralding the news that their work on Outcast, starring James Nesbitt and Kate Dickie, has wrapped after a five week shoot. LOLOL. Thats what I call being prepared and in advance there blog team :))Ah well, at least we know for sure there are a few weeks left on the production (and yes hope springs eternal for more pics of James and esp Kate!)

Quotage:
Saturday, April 11 2009 00:00
Having filmed in Edinburgh for three weeks and Studio Solas in Galway for two weeks, Outcast starring James Nesbitt and directed by Colm McCarthy wraps.

Look OutCast, There be a Giant Naked Monster in Sighthill!

Much appreciated today are two new heads up from readers today herald news of sorts regarding filming on Outcast, directed by Colm McCarthy (Tudors, one of my most fave shows, I still thrilled by this news) and starring James Nesbitt and Katie Dickie (Red Road, Rounding up Donkeys).

One reader let us know that yes indeed filming is ongoing in Sighthill, however James Nesbitt has NOT been on set for the night shoots that have been taking place. Not sure how much filming is going on this weekend, more when we get it!

A second comment was awesome imo, because not only are people so incredibly kind to stop by here and keep me up to date with progress on the film, this update contained a offbeat yet hilarious yet cool piece of news. The reader writes "I have been watching the filming right under my living room window in sighthill its fascinated and the chap that plays the beast (very nice Naked) but very tall chap!"

Awesome! The Beast is being portrayed by actor Ian Whyte. He is a very tall man, 7 feet tall. A former basketball player, he turned to film making, and has been seen in several major films, more info on Ian here. Brilliant-naked tall monsters stalking Sighthill! :D I love movie making! Thanks much as always to those who are taking the time out and the effort to bring these updates!!!

James Nesbitt, Kate Dickie OutCast Filming Week Two: Now in Sighthill?

The Outcast Filming Watch: Week Two continues today, thanks to the awesome reader who let us know that filming for the new movie starring James Nesbitt and Kate Dickie (Sigmas Red Road/ Rounding up Donkeys) will be filming in the Sighthill area over the next few days! woot! This was indeed one of the locations mentioned before in several press articles; needless to say any luck ones who are in the area and are willing to do so, please send in your pics and reports-will be more than glad to post them. There are loads of us out there who are interested in this film (especially all you awesome James Nesbitt fans, wow very impressive and cool people must say!) Be sure to check out the pics from last week up on flickr, and these previous posts on the filming here and here. Cheers, Chrissi and thanks!

Related: The Outcast IMDB page has been updated with more details on the cast, confirming that beloved character actor James Cosmo (Star of Sigma Films upcoming Donkeys, the second installment/sequel of sorts to Red Road) is indeed in the film in the role as "Laird." Great news (and thanks again to Dougie who went the extra steps and generously took a pic of James at work for me)

No Update on Outcast,sorry

Just a brief word to say thank you to reader Bryan, who noted - I saw this too late alas!-
that filming for Outcast, starring James Nesbitt and Kate Dickie, had been filming in the past two days in Greendykes, and even more cool "the monster" will be making an appearance.

Excellent news, just sorry I did not see it sooner. I believe they probably have another week of filming in Edinburgh, fingers crossed we hear more before it travels over to Ireland for studio filming in Galway. I'm afraid Ive haven't anything more than that to pass along, SORRY! and deeply appreciate that those like Bryan and esp Dougie have been so kind to share info with fans who care. BRAVO!

Thanks as well to Richard from Filmstalker who linked to this blog about the Outcast pics earlier this week, very cool indeed.

Donkeys Star James Cosmo an Outcast?

Hello, hello, and hello to all the new readers, esp the wonderful James Nesbitt fans! :)

Outcast News & Observations today:

Thanks to the ever awesome Dougie for letting me know that word has it actor James Cosmo may have joined the Outcast crew, and filmed a scene yesterday in UPDATE: Edinburgh or more precisely on High Street beside the St Giles cathedral. His credits are not listed on the IMDB page, and I thought he was off doing that Burns film, but if true, this would be very cool as James Cosmo is of course Kate Dickie's co star in the upcoming Donkeys, the sequel of sorts to Red Road and the second in the Sigma Films initiative Advance Party films. A mobile phone pic seems to show James; anyone with more info (& esp pics of Katie too!), please feel free to email or comment

New footage of James Nesbitt on Youtube today, which is cool as it really gives you an idea of how long it can take just to set up a shot (see vids one and two), and then end up filming something (see vid 3 below) which seemingly is simple, like Mr. Nesbitt's character running thru the streets of Dalkeith. I know Sigma's Colin Kennedy wrote about this process many times when he chronicled the making of David Mackenzie's Hallam Foe-new readers, you ought to go check out the HF blog if you are interested in an honest accounting of making a film. Anyway, ever grateful to the folks who are uploading this stuff to youtube!

Finally, the Scotsman is apparently paying attention huzzah! to all the fan interest in the film, as there is a new article online today, containing more on the film. On the filming front there was this: Shooting has already taken place in Dalkeith, Midlothian, and other scenes are set in Stockbridge and the city centre. The cast and crew will then be filming for two weeks in Galway, Ireland. Mr Nesbitt is also commenting on filming in the lovely city of Edinburgh and its surroundings as follows:"I love Edinburgh and it's great to be back. We'll just be here for another couple of weeks. The people are very friendly, the sun is shining and it's St Patrick's Day, so it couldn't be better."

First Look! Kate Dickie, James Nesbitt Filming Outcast (Updated with Video!)

FIRST LOOK!
Courtesy of photographer Dougie Wood/DBM, we have our first look at
Kate Dickie (Sigma's award winning Red Road, upcoming Donkeys) and James Nesbitt (Cold Feet, BBCs The Passion) filming a scene for the upcoming Outcast

Filming took place yesterday in Dalkeith, Scotland (Midlothian region, outside of Edinburgh) No word if crews are still there today. More of James below; larger sizes up on my flickr 1 (check out his salt & pepper beard he has going on for this film, looks creepy good have to say!) HUGE THANK YOU SO MUCH to Dougie, and to others who have emailed with tips/left comments sweetonsigmafilms@gmail.com
UPDATE:Video of Mr. Nesbitt only filming in Dalkeith now online via youtube
