Beardless One Day Film

One Day film will be beardless...It is with regret that I can pass along some bad news regarding a film and Jamie Sives. His part as Mr. Godalming aka THE BEARD has been cut from the upcoming Anne Hathaway film. BOOOOOOOOOOO!
Jamie is of course disappointed in this, but as he pointed out that is often how things go in the business, and rest assured he definitely continues to hold the director and his co-stars in high esteem. As such (and for those of us still longing for more of the beard ;) Jamie has treated us to a few new pics on his official IMDB page, include one him of him sporting a rather spectacular beard in Clash of The Titans

Jamie Sives Fans! Pre-Order Game of Thrones DVD

Season two on HBO's acclaimed hit series Game of Thrones begins filming today in Northern Ireland, featuring a number of Scottish cast. Some familiar names to be see in S2 (based on the Clash of Kings book by George RR Martin) include frequent Sigma star James Cosmo (Old Bear) and Kate Dickie (Lysa Arryn) Also returning of note will be Richie Madden as Robb Stark (who will have an EXCELLENT season trust me if you've not yet read the book, its a good one for Robb), along with an excellent Iain Glen as Ser Jorah, Ron Donachie, Rory McCann (so creepy great as the Hound) and I believe Natalia Tena (You Instead) is definitely doing more on her great turn as Osha-rock! Missing of course will be our beloved Jamie Sives as Jory -boooo. We loved you so much, such a great job as Jory!
Fear not however, as we will be able to relive that incredible first season as pre-orders for Game of Thrones DVD Season One are now available in the US via Amazon: DVD ($45.00 USD) Blu-Ray (55 USD)
UK pre-order can be found at the HBO shop, with more retailers to follow in short order. No release date is yet given (that will change soon to be certain). I also believe HBO is set to release their 2012 calendar which will feature many scenes from the series; will update this post once that becomes available online.
While I will greatly miss Jamie in this series, posts here on the show WILL CONTINUE given the great interest in the Scottish actors, including in those actors near and dear to Sigma film fans, stay tuned!

*Finally, the home town crowd will be able to catch Jamie Sives in his Best Actor turn for the short film "Tremblay-en-France" as it will be part of the French Film Festival this November in the UK. The festival will play in Jamie's home town and all over the UK including London, Edinburgh and Glasgow. The program will officially be announced in September. Of making this acclaimed short film, Jamie, who lived in Paris for a while and still has friends there, wanted to make a return to that fabled city of lights. Thus when offered the chance to film there he readily took the film, and told me of making the movie: "Those three weeks were very gruelling and a bit hairy too. We filmed for 3 weeks in and around the darker reaches of Paris, mostly through the night. All along the canal and out to the suburbs. There was all manner of things going on along that canal in the wee small hours."

LOL quite! Jamie was quite honored with the best actor award earlier this year, and has nothing but high marks for the cast & crew, emphasing its often love that drives makers of short films "Short film crews work through incredibly hard conditions and invariably for free. Just for the love of it. Quite something really."

WONDERFUL treat for us now, as Scots actor Jamie Sives was a guest on BBC Radio Sheffield yesterday. In this new interview, you can hear Jamie discussing his role in the Pride, currently playing at the Sheffield Crucible Theatre. He also talks about his role as Jory in Game of Thrones and wearing that very expensive (yet sexy imo) wig! :) Other topics include his guest stint on BBC Outcasts, a bit on life in Leith as well as a shoutout to his mum, sister and neices. There is also one graphic scene where, if you are sat to one side of the stage, you get more than your fair share of the view. But putting that to one side, I loved The Pride all over again and it was more than a match for the New York version.

And Mr Sives was also in Last Chance Harvey which starred Emma Thompson who played Mr W's mum in Brideshead Revisted."

Follow up: As noted here previously, Jamie Sives will have a guest role in the series "New Tricks" Jamie filmed his guest spot earlier this year in February, and that episode will be part of a new season for the show, Season Eight due to return on BBC1 THIS MONTH JULY 4 IN 'OLD FOSSILS' in the role of Mark Slater.

NEW MOVIE!~!
At the conclusion of his turn on the Sheffield Stage, Jamie will head immediately to Romania and Sweden to begin filming on a new movie called "A Very Unsettled Summer." Directed by Romanian Anca Damian, Jamie will be in a lead role, starring alongside Maria Dinalescu and Kim Bodnia (Jamie notes that Kim is 'a Danish actor who worked alongside my good mate Mads Mikkelsen in 'The Pusher'.) The film is based on a short story by Phillip O Ceallaigh. EXCELLENT NEWS INDEED!

Sweet Sives Summer Ahead

This summer is proving to be a good one for actor Jamie Sives.

First this weekend, lucky fans in Australia will be able to catch Jamie in his best-actor award-winning role in the "Tremblay-en-France" short film when it screens at the Sydney Film Festival. Longtime reader and fan Ollie will be going woot; have a great time my friend!

Jamie has concluded his multi-episode turn as Jory Cassel in the hit HBO series "Game of Thrones," which will be continued to be rebroadcast on the cable channel (and those in US can catch repeats on HBOGO; not sure how long the UK Sky Atlantic will keep those on the player?) Fingers crossed will be getting the dvd soon after the series concludes (in serious ass fashion) in two weeks, but we can always hope. I have a ton of screencaps of Jamie from the show (some already on my flickr) but am hoping to launch a proper gallery here in the next few weeks; updates on that to follow accordingly. bTW how great has Kate Dickie as Lysa and James Cosmo as Old Bear been on the show? FANTASTIC! Same holds true for Iain Glen Perfect, simply ace in my book and same holds true for Richie Madden as Robb Stark! Wonderful! (Emmy surely must go to Peter Dinklage tho or Mark Addy and/or Sean Bean, top of their games they are/were) Anyway, hoping and pretty certain most of the Scots will all be back for season 2 (save Jamie alas booo lol) can't wait!

Stars from Sigma Films to Appear in "Game of Thrones"

Several of some of the best actors from Scotland will be appearing in the upcoming HBO series Game of Thrones which premieres in just a few days (and will be seen in the UK on Sky Atlantic on April 18-be sure to check their official site here) Based on the best-selling book by author George R. R. Martin, the series also has a few faces well know to fans of Sigma Films.



JAMES COSMO. Well known for his many diverse roles in huge blockbusters such as Braveheart, James Cosmo was the recent star in his critically-acclaimed turn in Sigma's Donkeys directed by Morag McKinnon (the second installment in the Advance Party series, be sure to check out the hilarious trailer here) In Game of Thrones you James will be appearing as a much more serious character named Old Bear (Jeor Mormont), commander of the Night Watch.

KATE DICKIE. Well known and most beloved to those of Sigma fans, this hugely talented Scottish actress was most recently seen alongside James in Donkeys, where she reprises of sorts her award winning turn in Red Road. HBO has now released in glorious high definition a new "making of" feature on the upcoming Game of Thrones that features new interview with Kate Dickie on her role as Lysa Arryn for the series (starts at around 19:00 mark). Enjoy!




JAMIE SIVES. Several years after his award-winning turn in the tile role for Sigma's Wilbur Wants to Kill Himself, Jamie Sives also recently appeared in David Mackenzie's excellent Hallam Foe. Currently, Jamie can be seen portraying the role of Jory Cassel, right hand man to Lord Eddard Stark (Sean Bean). Interviews Update: Jamie Updates IMDB page, to be featured in Fault Magazine

MOVIE hunk Jamie Sives was left gutted after starring in sex-filled TV epic Game Of Thrones - as his character DIDN'T get lucky.

Jamie, 37, plays hardman bodyguard Jory Cassel in the £40million fantasy spectacular, which debuts on Sky Atlantic this month.

Jamie Sives to Return to Stage in Production of "The Pride"

Theatre news today: Actor Jamie Sives will mark a return to the boards as this summer he will be appearing in a production of "The Pride" at THE SHEFFIELD CRUCIBLE STUDIO THEATRE in June. In a limited run, Jamie will be appearing in the role of Philip who, as Jamie told me, is "same part that my best mate JJ (Feild) played so brilliantly at The Royal Court last year." AWESOME NEWS!

Running 23 June - 16 July, TICKETS ARE NOW ON SALE HERE AT THIS LINK. Jamie also told me that this play is "being directed by a great actor and director,… and friend Richard Wilson. I'll be working with Daniel Evans with whom I worked on 'The Passion' and 'To The Ends of The Earth. He is also the Artistic Director of The Sheffield Cruclible. Its a great theatre and a great city. I worked there 10 years ago, shoving a burning hot poker up Joe Fiennes' arse every night in Michael Grandage's production of Edward II. It will only be a 3 week run but I'm really looking forward to it."

Again this is wonderful news! Jamie begins rehearsals next month. The Pride is described as follows:

Jamie Sives on Jory, his fellow Scots and working on HBO's "A Game of Thrones"

Calling all Jamie Sives fans! Curious about his work on the upcoming HBO series "A Game of Thrones?" Well today, we are lucky enough to hear straight from the man himself. In a wonderful and relaxed manner, Jamie very kindly took time out and graciously answered a few questions for me, passing along a few thoughts on the cast and one very fun response regarding the moment when he learned he landed the the part of Jory Cassel in the television adaptation of George RR. Martin's acclaimed novel. Jamie Sives said:

"No, I hadn't heard of the books before being offered the role. I met with Frank Doelger and Dan Weiss, who along with Dave Benioff are fantastic fellas as well as brilliant producers. It was great when those guys were around on location, which in the case of Dan and Dave, was pretty much the whole time. A short while after meeting those guys I received a call from my agent to say I had the part. I then thought, I really should check out what this is so looked on the net and the first thing I saw was that headline [Jamie Sives is Jory Cassel], along with 80 or so comments. I had only just been told. The 81st person to know. It then struck me that this series of books had a huge following."

To prepare for his role, Jamie already had horse riding experience previously for several of his earlier parts (including his guest turn on Doctor Who), as well as sword fighting, but he did have some help in brushing up on his skills, stating (and OLLIE THIS ONE WAS FOR YOU!)

"I could ride already but was looked after very well by the horse whisperers Camilla and Simone. The horse I rode was called Spikey and I think I loved him. I didn't have much swordplay and when I did, the fight coordinator , Buster, whom I met on 'Clash', instructed me perfectly."

As tweeted and written about here many times, we've been fortunate enough to see Jamie in some of the previews for the program, including a clip, and as others have pointed out, he does wear a very heavy and hot costume the entire time, which posed a problem while filming. "I wore a very expensive wig and the heaviest chain-mail you've never seen which I had to take off between takes, especially in the heat of Malta."

Despite this, Jamie was very positive about his whole involvement with the series, and had nothing but praise for his time on A Game of Thrones. The series (with a huge cast) stars actor Sean Bean as Ned Stark. This will mark the first time Jamie has worked with the dashing actor and had nothing but high marks for the man. "He's a lovely fella. Very quiet and really quite shy. An unassuming man who keeps himself to himself." Stating that while filming he also hung out a bit with the "lovely Ron Donachie (Ser Rodrik Cassel) and fantastic Michelle Fairley (Catelyn Stark)," Jamie Sives lamented the fact he wasn't able to spend enough time or work with as many as he'd like, including a sizable number of fellow Scots.

"It was great to see so many people I knew when I turned up at the read thru, although that was to prove the last time I'd see some of them again on that particular job. For example, the person I knew best and am probably closest to was Iain Glen (Sir Jorah Mormont), whom I didn't see again until bumping into him in Soho at a Game Of Thrones ADR session last week. On such a big production like that, if your character doesn't come into contact with another character then its unlikely you'll see that actor again. Jimmy Cosmo (Old Bear) couldn't attend the read thru so unfortunately we missed each other completely and I only saw Kate (Dickie, who plays Lysa Arryn) one other time, at the unit base in Belfast. Lots of Jocks on it, eh? Iain, Jimmy, Kate, Ron Donachie, Richie Madden (Robb Stark), Rory McCann (Sandor Clegane) and Emun Elliott (Marillion)…. Hope I haven't missed anyone!"

Still, there were others that Jamie stated it was "great" work with again such as Mark Addy ( King Robert, GoT, worked with Jamie on It's a Wonderful Afterlife) and Joseph Mawle (Benjen Stark in GoT, worked with Jamie on BBC's The Passion) and also had very positive thoughts regarding the rest of the cast.

"I've been an admirer of Aidan's (Gillen who plays Littlefinger) work for some time, particularly 'The Wire' and really enjoyed both meeting and working with him. There was a great group of young guys on the film like Richie Madden (Robb Stark), Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) and Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy). Really top guys who's company I really enjoyed."

I spent almost every day with a guy who has became a friend for life and that's Jason Mamoa (Khal Drogo). Our characters were not in contact but Jason had so much Dothraki prep to do he was around the whole time. He was in Malta the whole 8 weeks I was there and not shooting so we had a ball. His family came out from LA too. His wife, Lisa Bonet and his two beautiful babies. Easily the best looking family in the universe. There's a lot of great genes knocking around there that's for sure! He's coming to London next week so can't wait to see him again."

All in all, Jamie very much enjoyed his time on the set, which was capped off by a gathering or a Moot in Belfast, [organized by super folk like Doc Four and Silver Jaime], which proved to be a great and memorable night for fan and cast alike. "Yes, the moot was fun. To be honest, I'd been in London for a while and just got out of a taxi from the airport and saw all the boys out front of the hotel, then big Mark Addy grabbed me and told me I was going to a moot. [lol] It was a good night though and everyone was very gracious and polite…. and cool." :)

So now that things are complete, will Jamie have time to sit and read the rest of the series? Given his jammed pack schedule ahead, he's not going to have much free time ahead( more on that later) but like so many others, he will be tuning in to watch, right along with you and me. "No, I haven't read the books since. I've decided to watch the HBO version instead. They very seldom get it wrong!"

TV Watch: Get Him to the Greek on Cinemax

Quick reminder for those Jamie Sives fans: Get Him to the Greek premieres on Cinemax this weekend. Starring Russell Brand, this hit comedy, already out on DVD and on demand, will beginning airing on the cable channel starting Saturday, 12 March at 10:00pm (ET)-you can see the full listings here.

This is of mention, as recently, I was very fortunate enough to hear from Jamie himself again (!!!!!!!!) and he passed along some cool trivia relating to the film. A former classmate of Russell at the Drama Centre, Jamie makes a memorable cameo in the film as one of Alfonso (Russell Brand) mates in London (and woot yes Jamie displays his....wonderful assets :D :D :D heee! and thoughts of the encroaching papperazzi lol) Jamie said of his now longtime friend:

"Russell asked his mates to be his entourage in 'Greek'. I was there, with Karl Theobald (who also went to drama school with us), Danny Murphy (Russell's minder) and G Sekweyama (Russell's mate from his old radio show). We spent a week together and had a great laugh and we all met up again last New Year's Eve at Russell and Katy's party."

Jamie Sives/Game of Thrones Update: New HBO Trailer & Release Date for Dance with Dragons

Big news today from author George R.R. Martin regarding a SOLID RELEASE DATE FOR DANCE WITH DRAGONS! At long last, the long awaited book five will be out on July 12, 2011! Thanks much to EW who emailed directly with the news as seen on their site as follows:

The next book in George R.R. Martin’s bestselling A Song of Ice and Fire series has a publication date. Yes, we swear, after waiting six long years since the release of the last novel in the saga, the fabled Book 5 A Dance With Dragons is close enough to being finished* for Martin’s publisher to set a release date. We have that date, exclusively, along a first look at the book’s cover art and an interview with the man himself.

A Dance With Dragons will be published on July 12. The manuscript is huge — the publisher estimates the hardcover edition will run more than 900 pages, putting it about the same length as the longest book in the series, A Storm of Swords. Schedule your summer vacation accordingly.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What took so long?

GEORGE R. R. MARTIN: I’m not sure I have a good answer. If I did, I would have taken less time. It’s enormous. It’s as long as A Storm of Swords. It’s very complicated. I have a lot of characters and points of view. And I’ve been doing a ton of rewriting, trying to get it where I wanted it to be. Some of these chapters I’ve rewritten more times than I can count before I’m satisfied with them.

Can you tease something from the book?

I don’t want to spoil any surprises. I can say all the characters people have been waiting for are there: Daenerys, Jon Snow, and Tyrion. There’s also new characters, and viewpoints from characters who did not have viewpoints before.

Related: As we well know, the Game of Thrones TV series is drawing ever close to the April 17 opening broadcast, and a few days ago HBO released another wonderful trailer for the series to date. Short Film Starring Jamie Sives Grand Prix Winner at Clermont-Ferrand

Belated Congratulations!! are in order for Vincent Vizioz, director of "Tremblay En-France" which took the Grand Prix prize at the Clermont-Frerrand short film festival a few weeks ago. As reported here several times previously, Scotlands own Jamie Sives is the lead actor in this film (and he won Best Actor for his performance in this film at another festival several months ago). Readers will recall of course, last year Colin Kennedy and I Love Luci also pulled out a win at this prestigious event; Many Congratulations to Jamie!

New Video: Jamie Sives, James Cosmo in HBO's "Game of Thrones"

Check it out: new video tonight of the upcoming HBO series Game of Thrones. Seen via the newly wed (yay!) and always awesome George RR Martin's Not a blog (thanks Westerosorg for the heads up!), this new video (below) contains new glimpses of Scotland's own Jamie Sives as Jory (along with Ned played by Sean Bean as they visit a brothel-nah seriously now, please go read the book and then watch the series, it's great stuff well worth it I assure you) Plus there is a new clip featuring frequent Sigma star and the ever fabulous James Cosmo as Old Bear, he looks terrific I can't wait for this series! Bonus: check out new video of Joseph Mawle, hecka good actor and Jamie S co-star who gave an excellent portrayal of Jesus in BBC's The Passion, really an amazing cast they've put together on every possible level.

Don't forget, the equally wonderful Kate Dickie will also appear in this series, which begins airing on HBO April 17!

As some of you may already know we saw this new photo of Jamie earlier this week (via Den of Geeks) from his guest star turn in the upcoming episode of Outcasts, which airs Mon, 14 Feb. Honestly I saw a clip from this show and I could swear its a scene thats a huge ass spoiler to his character so not gonna link, but still the episode should be good, can't wait!



In addition to that photo, Jamie has also added a few more, including one very very cool photo of this well read talented handsome guy chillaxing at home, PLAYING HIS GUITAR (is that a Babyshambles poster on the wall too?)...and bare feet, jammies .... Jamie jams in his jammies..heee!

Jamie Sives is a BBC Outcast

A followup today regarding Jamie Sives and his upcoming guest star turn on the new BBC series "Outcasts." This widely anticipated show is due to begin airing next week on BBC (Episode one Mon, 7 Feb followed the next night with episode two) As reported here previously, Jamie is due to guest on Episode 3 and while not yet confirmed, it is likely his episode will air the following week...which will make for a rather lovely late Valentines from Jamie :D :D

Right, so today the BBC released EPISODE 3 DESCRIPTION including more involving the character of Leon, played by Jamie (who is described straight to me awesomely from the bbc as "brilliant" wooohooo I CAN'T WAIT)

Reports predict that a super whiteout of unprecedented strength could hit Forthaven, as BBC One's blockbuster sci-fi series continues. Stella draws on Tipper's mathematical ability to predict exactly when the whiteout will strike and Tate begins to lock down Forthaven. Fleur, unaware of the whiteout threat, takes the AC baby back to Rudi.

Cass runs into an old flame, Trix, who is getting married the following day. Her fiancé, Leon, is sent out to secure the Earth Beacon before the storm breaks. Leon's workmate suffers an accident and gets stuck under a piece of falling metal. Leon is unwilling to leave him, despite the whiteout gaining in strength around them. Trix begs Cass to go out and find her fiancé and he agrees.

The whiteout hits and Tate and Stella fear for Cass's safety. Berger undermines Tate's authority by seizing the opportunity to speak directly to the people, against Tate's wishes. However, Tate realises it is safer to keep Berger on the inside of his government, rather than allowing him to build up a power base from the outside.

Stella Isen is played by Hermione Norris, Tipper Malone by Michael Legge, Richard Tate by Liam Cunningham, Fleur Morgan by Amy Manson, Rudi by Langley Kirkwood, Cass Cromwell by Daniel May, Trix by Fiona Button, Leon by Jamie Sives and Julius Berger by Eric Mabius.

Photos from the concert held last weekend in Stirling at the Macrobert Centre are now online at the official Eilidh Brown Appeal Facebook here. As readers will recall, this concert was held in memorial for a lovely young woman named Eilidh Brown who passed away from cancer last year. A fundraising appeal is ongoing in her memory in efforts to combat this disease and to help families who are facing this battle together. The 500 Heros appeal is now underway turning your donation into concrete physical help and part of a new home in Stirling where families can stay as they face the battle together. Also, be sure to check out this new article from the Stirling Observer that contains a great quote from Gordon Brown, and Jamie's co-star in Valhalla Rising, who spoke of the beautiful event held in memory of his daughter:

“I was worried at first about selling the tickets for £25 each.“I thought it would be too much but since the gig I’ve been stopped left and right by people saying they would happily have paid twice that for the night, which is great.”

Eilidh Brown died of cancer aged 15 last year and a memorial fund was set up by her aunt, ‘Bad Girls’ and ‘Wire in the Blood’ actress Simone Lahbib. The family are hoping to raise enough money to build a home in the Stirling area that can be used for respite by young cancer sufferers and their families.

“This is only the start,” said Gordon. “It wasn’t at first – we had no idea how successful the concert would be, or not – but now I really see it as the launch pad.“There were 470 people in the audience and now, hopefully, they will go on and raise more money and spread the word.”“Around 70 people signed up to 500 Heroes on the night, which is a great start,” said Gordon. “We just need Stirling to get behind this and see how far we can go from here.”

Eilidh Brown Charity Concert Raises £15,000

Previously we learned of a lovely young woman named Eilidh Brown, and a charity appeal held in her honor to raise money for those families affect by cancer. Actor Jamie Sives holds this charity dear to his heart, and as we also hold Jamie dear, many of us were delighted to learn there was to be a concert held to raise funds for the appeal where Jamie was to make his public singing debut, which was also to feature a number of appearances and songs from several celebrities including Jon Fratelli and Scotland's own Billy Boyd and his band Beecake. Despite the multiple attempts by many of us to hear detailed news, photos and videos of the event held over the weekend that have thus far been disappointing, thanks go to the folks at Daily Record, we have now learned that the sold-out event raised about £15,000-fantastic news indeed! :))) Fingers crossed we might still yet get to see some photos/videos from the event!!

Eilidh's dad, the actor Gordon Brown, is quoted as saying: "It's taken seven months to put this together and it's great seeing it coming to fruition. The support's been amazing. "The first question Eilidh would have asked is, 'Why are they doing this for me?' She was a very modest girl."

On their official fb, organizers for the appeal posted:

Eilidh's concert was fantastic! It was a wonderful night where those who love and knew Eilidh worked hard to make it a big success. Thank you to all came to the concert to share this special night with the family and raise money for the respite home the memorial fund is looking to build.

CONGRATULATIONS!! Great news! What a great way to honor a lovely girl taken far too soon, so very cool and very beautiful!!
